Robert Mitchell

Born in Preston, England, I came to Germany in 1996 in the hope of starting a successful career as a
ballet dancer. After a surprisingly quick end to this dream, from 1999-2002 I completed my higher education in Germany, studied an unhappy semester of physics in Bonn in 2002, and from 2003-2010 found better footing reading sociology and linguistics at JGU Mainz.

My PhD studies in sociology took place in and between Mainz and Oldenburg, and in 2019 I submitted my autoethnographic study on ballet and taijiquan. Accordingly, my main interests lie in sociology of the body, ethnomethodology, practice theories and sociological theories in general.

In the CRC 1482, I am the scientific coordinator, meaning that there is basically no task too big or small that it does not land on my desk. Alongside the coordination and administration of our finances with the project management team, I organise our events, our timelines for our goals, and much more. Moreover, with Peter
Hofmann as the SFB messenger I am entrusted with the task of observing the development of the CRC, making sure that we 'stay on course', and I always endeavour to ensure that no barrier is put in the way of our research goals.
