Academic Vita
Sophie Spallinger studied media studies at the Bauhaus University Weimar from 2013 to 2017. From 2015 to 2016, she worked as a research assistant for the chair of “Image Theory with a Focus on Moving Image Research”. From 2017 to 2020 she completed the Master's program in Media Dramaturgy with a focus on Film Studies at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and was a research assistant at the Chair of Media and Culture Studies from 2018 to 2020. Since 2021 she has been a research assistant at the Institute for Film, Theater, Media and Cultural Studies.
Research
Sophie Spallinger is working on a dissertation on surveillance regimes under test conditions and on the mediality of train station infrastructure. She is a doctoral researcher in the media and culture studies project “Urban Control Regimes” on security, surveillance and control of contemporary train station infrastructures in Germany and the USA. Her research focuses on media theory and media archaeology, the witnessing of moving images, the history and theory of early film, media and practices of surveillance, and the cultural technique of testing.
